How the gods came to be:
This is a website introducing you the the Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Greece. In this website you will find facts, stories, and many other interesting things about The Gods and their children. There were many Gods in Ancient Greece, the twelve major Gods, who were believed to control things like the sky, or have wisdom, and be able to grant it to those who pleased them. Each God had a different thing that he/she controlled. It was believed that how the Gods came to existence is that two Titans, Cronus the Titan lord, and Rhea the mother of the gods, heard a prophecy from the Titan Uranus that one day a child of Cronus would eventually overthrow the Titans and take the throne. So as Cronus and Rhea had their children, Cronus devoured them until one time, when Rhea got annoyed of having her children devoured and swapped one baby, Zeus, for a stone. She then hid him in a cave on the island of Crete, accompanied by some nymphs until he grew up. Zeus then tricked his father into drinking poison which made him throw up the stone, along with the other children. The Gods the declared war against the Titans, and after ten years of war, Gaia, Cronus's mother told Zeus that if he delivered the cyclops and the hecatoncheires from tartarus, she would grant him victory. He killed Campe, the torturer of the cyclops, and the cyclops then thanked him with the gift of thunder and lightning. The Titans were then defeated, and Cronus was cut up into thousands of pieces with his own scythe, and thrown into the darkest part of the underworld, tartarus, along with the other Titans. Zeus then took his rightful place as the king of the Gods on mount olympus. There are many slightly different varietys of how this happened, but this is what most of them say. In almost any Greek myth there are many slightly varied versions, and in some even major events within the story are different. This is why if you ever research a Greek myth, it is always wise to research two or three different versions.
Social Organisation:
The Greek social order was a semi-complex organisation, consisting of city-states, some of the larger ones being ruled by Monarchies, Democracies and a few other ways. The two largest city-states were Athens and Sparta, and were constantly at war with each other. Sparta was however, a more military based city-state, which trained their children for military training.
